Happy Holiday!

:) I'll be off from work from today noon till the next monday. A long holiday is coming. However, no plan to go anywhere further as hubby still got to work. Sigh...

So, what am I going to do during this long Raya break? New kid is going to have her beauty sleep, so may be I can join her to do the same activities? Hehe...

Hubby and I are looking for either a 2-seats small set sofa or a pair of relaxing chairs to put into our bedroom. Anybody have any good recommendation where to find one? We search high and low in several furniture shops at Penang island and Sungai Petani. We've visited the famous Mekio and the one opposite Mekio at Kinta Street. No luck to find one that suits our requirement.

This type of relaxing chair from Ikea looks good. However, based on my evaluation on its structure, I'm a bit doubtful about the reliability.

This model looks fine. If it's made of comfortable fabric, I will consider to get one. :)

Do I sound choosy?

Our Study Room

Over the last week, we've been busy setting up our study room. We sacrifice a guest room and utilized it as our dream study room. A total make over. :) We made an effort to clear all the things. We threw away tons of hubby's computer stuffs, some outdated hardwares, lots of empty boxes. We torn down the bed and moved the closet to another room, followed by a series of cleaning. A really hard job. All done by two of us.

We made several trips to furniture & electrical shops cuz we got to invest a lil' sum of money to decorate the room....like installing an air conditioner unit, and also a bookshelf. For the computer desk and chairs, we just reallocate the current assets from our bedroom. Although it's a tiring job, but it's kind of fun. Hubby set up his desktop and our 2 notebooks, while I was busy hanging up MIL's homemade curtain and arranging our books. I moved in my exerciser too.

Finally, we get things done. Yippie! Now we have a specific room for our paper work, computer work, and reading. This will be hubby's home office too.

Dear, if you are too boring, may be we can keep a toy puppy, like this? :P

Panic Over The Technologies

Technology brings to us a comfortable living, but at the same time it brings danger to humankind. This is so called pros and cons.

Plastic container enable us to store food and drinks. Who knows plastic raisins that contain BPA is dangerous? As a "kia si" human being, I screened through all the plastic container at home. Those with #1, #3, #6 and #7 were thrown away. If can, I'll just use glass and clay container only.

Microwave oven is one of the most convenient kitchen helper in preparing meals. I heard of too many scary true stories. There are too many precautions need to be aware of. As such a lazy bug, I just keep it in the store room. I'll never use it.

Instant noodle, for instance, is one of the popular food among those who are lazy or too busy to prepare their food. I understand wax is used in the instant noodle manufacturing process. Wax is use to prevent the noodles stick to each other when it's cooked. Such a health freak, I would rather choose to use organic noodle. Recently I discover that angle hair spaghetti is so convenient to use in cooking my healthy and simple dish. I'm satisfied with it's texture. It's suitable for preparing a noodle in soup, home made sauce, wantan mee style, or mee goreng style.

With the recent Melamine scare, shall I stop any dairy product intake? Sigh...

On the other hand, I rely on internet technology very much. I can't imagine to live without it. I need to phone through Skype. I need to watch movies through PPLive. I want to blog through Blogger and I want to read news online..... I can't really live conveniently without internet.

I'm not going to give up the air conditioner too... Malaysia is definitely too hot without it.

Naughty Cat Again...

See...Hubby complaints about the cat. The naughty cat again... Never ending story. Now a days it even dare to come and discover the new "play ground" in our living room. What la!

Sometimes, I realize I treat the cat too good. See, it enjoys the steamed fish fillet from me. Bear in mind, the fish is not our left over dish. I specially steam the whole piece of fillet just for it. We left the fish fillet in the fridge for too long, so it is not so fresh. I decided to "donate" the fillet for the cat. I stole a photo from it while it's still enjoying the fishy meal. :P Pity the cat seldom got chance to taste fish. Our neighbour at the back used to feed the cat left over rice only.

This cat is very pitiful. Its life is full of dashed hopes. Even when its papa cat and mama cat pay a visit, they just want to bully it, shout at it, chase over it and grab away its food. Sometimes it get frightened till pee and "lao sai" at the back of our house. So, in the end, hubby got to wash the floor. :(

I don't mind to offer some food to the cat, I just wish it won't enter our house and dirty our place. But where to find such disciplined stray cat? Hmm......

Safe Drinking Bottle (Part 2)

As per what I mentioned in Safe Drinking Bottle, my target now is to find safe and reaiable drinking bottles.

My dear and I are so eager to complete the mission since this is related to health. We shopped at a department store last evening. After inspecting each of the models, we found all felton bottles that available there are marked with #7. I managed to find some kid's drinking bottles marked with #5 and #6. The worst is some bottles do not even contain the plastic code. Bear in mind #3, #6 and #7 are no longer exist in my list. I hope you've cancel those in your list too. So, for safety purpose, I choose #2, #4 and #5 only. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to find any. Very disappointed! :(

I did my task at home as well. I found that #2 material is mostly used in the supplement bottles. I'm not sure about yours, but my Amway branded supplements' bottles are proudly marked as #2 at their bottom. :)

As for #5 it's mostly used in the transparent food containers that marked with "SUITABLE FOR USE IN MICRO-WAVE OVEN".

We did a quick search on Google, and the result of the safest water bottle is - the Aluminium bottle.

If we really can't find reliable plastic bottles, we will proceed to find our Aluminum bottles.

Meanwhile, I'm back to my old Tupperware.

Safe Drinking Bottle

Felton drinking water is very popular in the recent few years. It's not only convenient to use and cheap, the color range is very attractive as well. Hubby and I use it too after abandoned the old Tupperware containers. He owns the blue and I own the pink. So romantic hor?

I just received a circulation email from my colleague regarding the plastic coding system. The number listed from 1 to 7, and the worst are 3, 6 and 7!

So, I faster inspect the bottom of my bottle. OMG! It's 7! How? What am I going to do? All the while we've been not paying attention on this piece of number molded on our bottle. Is this forgivable? Huh? I can't imagine how much chemical I've consumed and how much is circulating in my blood stream. Oh no!

To be certain that you are choosing a bottle that does not leach, check the recycling symbol on your bottle.

Summary on the information picked from http://trusted.md/:

#2 = HDPE (high density polyethylene)

#4 = LDPE (low density polyethylene)

#5 = PP (polypropylene)

If your bottle are with # 2, 4 and 5, then it's fine.

#1 = PET (Polyethylene terephalate)

# 1 is the type of plastic bottle in which water is usually sold. It is only recommended for one time use. Do not refill it.

#7 = Undefined material, may consist Nylon and Acrylic.

#7 is the most dangerous one. Mostly those fabulous colourful hard plastic lexan bottles are made with polycarbonate plastics and identified by the #7 recycling symbol. It may leach BPA (Bisphenol A), a xenoestrogen. BPA is a known endocrine disruptor. It disturbs the hormonal messaging in our bodies. Synthetic xenoestrogens are linked to breast cancer and uterine cancer in women, decreased testosterone levels in men, and are particularly devastating to babies and young children. BPA has even been linked to insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes.

My next action will be to screen all the plastic containers at home, and to pass this information to everybody. Of course, I'll go to shop for reliable drinking bottles.

By the way, I can't see any recycling symbol embedded on the Tupperware water container. And through their website, they just confirmed baby bottles and baby toys do not contain polycarbonate. So, shall we use baby bottle as our drinking bottle?

Secret Talk

Cats meow when they want to interact with human. They also meow in different way when they talk to their cat friends. Watch this, and you'll understand what I meant. Just like you and me, cats can talk, but in their own cat language.

Oh yes, I realized something recently. I noticed that now a days, one female cat changed her strategy. She hides her little kitten on our roof. Let's see the photos, and you'll believe me.

See, it's so relaxing. Staying at the roof top most of the time. Occationally the cat mother come to inspect her kitten and perhaps bring some food...

This little kitten will never run away even we approach it, or we "shu" at it. It's still acting like nobody's business. Really beh tahan. Argh.............. It's living in its own cat world.

Happy Birthday Dear!

Happy birthday, my dear! I wish you enjoy the dinner this evening. :)

By the way, my dear is reading the operating instructions on how to use his birthday present. Hehe, guess what I bought for him. Teng teng teng teng......

Yes, a pair of digital cordless phone with caller ID. One represents him and another one represents me. So sweet ler... I chose Panasonic brand as I believe it's more reliable. I have confidence in Panasonic products. How about you? Well, few months ago, this model cost for over 300 ringgit, but now the price drops to just RM199. Phew...luckily we didn't buy it that time. :)

There's a reason behind why I gave him the caller ID phone. Lately, my dear complained that he receives too many annoying phones calls that affect his concentration. Oh yes, he works from home. So, I got him this product in order to prevent unnecessary disturbances. :P

Well, the caller ID has not been activated yet. It'll take for roughly 3 days for TM to activate the service. I have no idea why they need so long just to reset the interchange. Can they speed up a little bit? Sigh......

My New Kitchen Helpers

Lately, Makan King & Queen have not eating out frequently. We stick to Makan Queen's home cooked meal. :) Makan Queen is so hardworking preparing dinner after work on weekdays, and also over the weekends. This is consistently practiced for nearly 6 months. Good job, Makan Queen! So, are you aware of who is Makan Queen? It's me lor… :P

Just last week, I proposed to hubby that we should upgrade some of our cooking utencils to something which are more reliable and user friendly. Afterall, we are the one that get the benefits from the investment, right? Hubby supported my proposal, and we started our plan...

All the while, I just stick to the common electric rice cooker which was a free gift. It's still functioning well after 3 years. However, some of the parts have been broken off, such as the rice scoop holder and the moisture retainer. :( So, the rice cooker is one of the things that I wish to get a new replacement unit.

Well, after visiting to Jusco and Harvey Norman, we got an basic idea and gained some knowledge on the electric cooker models. We went through a long discussion in selecting our suitable candidate. Eventually, we agreed to buy a more reliable rice cooker - Panasonic's Microcomputer rice cooker with Neuro Fuzzy Technology. Tada...

The thing that caught my attention was the Diamond Fluorine coated inner pot. Yes, you can see the "bling bling" on the pot's inner surface. It's non-stick and scratch resistance. The microprocessor is programmed to cook your rice to perfection and it is very user friendly. You can select to cook white rice, brown rice, sushi, nasi lemak, porridge, or for slow cooking and steaming purposes. :) It looks impressive! And....you can preset what time to cook the rice. Sounds great!

Now, the rice cooking task has been passed on to hubby. He would love to contribute to our home cooked routine job. :) He tried the brown rice cooking mode that takes for 120 minutes to compared with the quick cook. Both passed with distinction. The brown rice is so soft and fluffy. The pot is easy for washing due to it's non stick surface.

Besides that, we've bought a Dupont Teflon non stick pan with glass cover. I've used it for my daily stir fry process. So far so good. It promotes healthy cooking style with less oil. It just fulfil my requirement to stir fry veggie with olive oil.

With these 2 reliable kitchen helpers, I'm more willing to cook. *Wink Wink*

Bubble Bash for i-phone

Hubby knows that I love to play simple puzzle games, hence he downloaded some just to lure me. And, currently I'm hooked to Bubble Bash. Good news is I've passed through all the 10 levels, and managed to find the treasure! Hurray! I got 3 pieces of gold clothing. ;P

Basically, I just spend roughly one hour each day continuously for 1 week in order to complete the mission. Each level consists of 10 sub-games and followed by a boss stage. I yelled for help each time bullied by the super naughty monkey, spider and giant lizard. Hubby saved me most of the time. He's my hero!

Wondering what is Bubble Bash? Come, let's take a quick glance. For more details, pay a visit to Gameloft.

3M For Merdeka Day!

Wondering what's the 3M stands for? It's my marketing, "masak" and "makan". Haha…

Well, after came back from hospital, hubby and I dropped by the Batu Lanchang Market to buy some ingredients. Batu Lanchang market aka the rich people's market is our family's favorite market although we are not considered as rich people. Ahem! Who cares? Well, in this market, you can find lots of stuffs, especially fresh seafood. Whenever my mom wants to buy crabs, she will pay a visit to this market. Oh yea, this market is a bit different. Unlike other market, this market only operates in the afternoon.

Previously all the hawkers were running their business at Greenland, near the lorong at the "Genting" place before they shifted here. I used to follow my parents on their weekly marketing trip when I was a little girl. The main reason was merely to have a free meal on my favorite wantan mee and "pat poh" ice. See, I'm so damn "tam chiak". *Blash*

Ok, back to my objective of visiting this market. Basically I wanted to buy something for my home cooked meal. I need few tomatoes, lettuce and medium size prawns. That's all. But since I was already there, so I tumpang the trip to complete my weekly marketing mission. Of course prawns can be found at almost every seafood stalls. However the condition was not convenient for me to choose the item that I want. Narrow space and fishy smell water splashing everywhere. In the end, I gave up my initial plan and moved to B plan.

We took the risk to move on to the fisherman stalls nearby my place to search for prawns. Well, luck was pretty good. We managed to find medium size prawns on sale. The prawns were freshly caught from the sea. I couldn't believe that 12 prawns just cost me RM2.50!! Oh, this was a wise plan for cost saving!

Then, proceed with the next step - "masak". I had an idea to cook my healthier version of prawn noodle. Of course, since I use organic whole wheat noodle to replace the common yellow noodle that contain Boric acid.

Tada….here's my prawn noodle. Not bad huh??
Mission accomplished!

Pills, pills, and more pills

Reading an article - Pills, pills, pills on the Star, make me think of my MIL.

Being a stroke patient, like MIL, polypharmacy is occurred very commonly. She has more than 10 types of medication prescribed by different specialists, such as orthopaedic and cardiologist. FIL acts as caregiver to MIL. He is the one that brings MIL for medical check-up. Also, he is the one who measure MIL's blood pressure daily basis and monitor MIL's sugar level on weekily basis. He needs to know and understand the purpose of every single medicines prescribed by doctors, including when to take and how much is the dossage. Now, he can remember all the description of the medicines.

He has big responsibility to take care of MIL, and he does well. One point that he highlighted to us - MIL is just depends on the medicine to continue her body function. If any medicine is missed, her life will be threathening for sure. Oh, sad........ :(
