Happy Birthday Mama!

Today is my mama's birthday. Her birthday is falling on March 23rd, the lunar calendar. Every year, her birthday is very close to Mother's Day. So normally, my siblings and I will combine both celebration with our beloved mum.

As per usual, I will have my lunch at my parents place later during my lunch break. I will give my mama a hug and wishing her "Happy Birthday!", and of course the "ang pao" (red packet with money).

Besides hubby, my parents love me the most. My papa never cane me, but my mama did when I made her angry. I know I was a terribly stubborn child. My parents had a hard time bringing me up.

Happy birthday mama!. I love you, deep from my heart!

Our New Bed

Our solid wood bed broke a year ago. Solid wood wor, still can get broken so easily. I've been dragging for one year to get a new bed for us. We slept with our matress on the floor. Our master bedroom is on the first floor, not at the ground floor, so it's not harmful to our body (according to old follk's theory).

On last weekend, my dear and I went shopping for our new bed. Both of us prefer the lower bed like those Japanese style or the simple platform style. Mainly is we want a strong bed with better support. No more broken bed. :( After visiting to 5 or 6 furniture shops, finally we found one that suits our requirements. We chose the divan bed with:

* High quality, soft feel, dark brown PU material
* 8" Divan thickness for better support
* Anti-slip Divan top
* Full-length headboard with high-quality resilient foam

We will use back our comfit fibre matress. It's a heavy but very comfortable mattress made of natural coconut fibre. It provides good support to our backs.

Yay! New bed was delivered yesterday. We did have a good night sleep last night. We are satisfied with our new bed. No more sleeping on the floor. Sleep higher for better luck, according to Feng Shui. ;-) Superstitious hor?

To Stay Or To Leave?

Since the beginning of 2008, all the employees in our company have been "hoohoohaahaa" non-stop. Rumors keep on spreading to the whole organization. Lots of colleagues resigned from our company and some are hunting for new jobs. For me, so far I have never think of leaving the company, coz I have too many products to take care of. No time to plan about it at this moment. I guess I will stay with the company as long as I can.

I don't think our company is that bad. I worked in several companies before, in a Japanese MNC, in a local listed company, in a Singapore based company, and in a US MNC. I experienced the working life in both OEM and subcon. However, I spend the longest period with my current company. Mainly there are few reasons:

1. work load is reasonable, not so pressure.
2. do not need to travel, coz I used to travel alone extensively in my previous job. I hate it!
3. can go back on time to cook my dinner, ;P
4. pay wise is considered average, much more higher than previous company affords to pay :-)
5. my boss appreciates my job.
6. no politics in the office.
7. it's just 10 minutes drive from my home.

In last Dec, we got our contractual bonus. Besides, top management announced that if company can achieve the 2007 goal as per committed to the corporate, then we will have our extra bonus in somewhere around Apr 2008. That's why we are looking for something "extra" since last month. Waiting and waiting for the announcement through Bulletin. And finally......we have reached that moment. Good news! Yay! Month end got bonus ler! Hurray! Yippy! :P

Folic Acid

Women who are planning for their pregnancies should know about folic acid. It's a kind of B- vitamin, which is crucial in the development of DNA. It carries the genetic information that controls the development and function of every cell in our body. For expecting mom, folic acid may reduce the incidences of recurrent miscarriages, pre-term delivery and low birth weight babies. For baby, folic acid protects baby against Neural Tube Defects which are birth defects of the spine and brain.

New evidence suggests that folic acid deficiency reduces fertility in men and may damage the DNA carried by sperm. According to the study, a folate-restricted diet made sperm counts plunge 90 percent in rats, and folic acid deficiency has a similar effect in men.

So, a couple should eat a folic acid-rich diet before they started to plan for a healthy pregnancy. Folic acid-rich foods include beans, peas, dark green leafy vegetables like spinach, asparagus, seeds, oranges, fortified breakfast cereals and maternal supplements.

Argghhhhhh....cover shoes hurt my feet!

Oh no! I noticed that my feet grew a little bit longer. Just realised it when I wore a pair of my favorite high heel cover shoes to work on Monday. It used to be a pair of comfortable shoes that fit nicely onto my feet. But now, the shoes are terribly tight for my feet. I gotta squeeze my feet into it and my poor little feet were getting hurt. Shit! I got to walk like a silly girl on high heels. What a shame...

My nightmare begins when our stupid HR set a new rule that every employee must wear cover shoes to work. Gosh, my feet are now hurt. I got to wear my ugly comfort flat shoes till the pain is gone. Now, all my high heels cover shoes seem too small for me. Too bad! Gotta spend money buying new cover shoes some more. How about all the sandals sitting in my shoes cabinet? What a waste!

Ladies, avoid eating chicken wings frequently!

I love to eat grilled or fried chicken wings, and my brother always warn me of doing so. He encourages me to eat chicken drumbsticks instead of chicken wings. I do not trust his theory until I read the email regarding this.

According to a forwarded email, chickens are injected with steroids to accelerate their growth in order to fulfill the high demand. Chickens that are injected with steroids are usually given the shot at the neck or the wings. Therefore, these places contain the highest concentration of steroids. The steroids have terrifying effects on our body as it accelerates growth.

In the presence of female hormones, the effect is even more dangerous. It leads to the growth of a cyst in the womb. So ladies, watch out your diets! Avoid eating chicken wings frequently.

Hair cut

I'm not the one who frequently change my hair style. However, I had different types of hair style before. I had long hair, rebonding hair, lots of short hair styles and highlighted hair. I kept my hair long previously before I got married. However, I have short hair after that. Till now.

I personally prefer to keep my hair short, coz short hair can be very tidy, sexy, stylish, modern looking, playful and fun. I can have many creative ways to manage it. I can brush it straight, make it fluffy, funky or pixie. :P

Two years back, I found my hair dresser, Jaqlyn. She is a young lady that really understand what kind of short hair suits me the best. I like my look after every appointment with her. Sadly, she is no longer in Penang. She's now in KL to polish up her skill. My new hair dresser is a young guy working at the same salon. To me, he still have a lot of things to pick up before he can become famous. On my last visit, he spend almost 2 hours to get my hair cut. 2 hours, can you imagine? My goodness! He sprayed water on my hair layer per layer. He cut layer per layer, and he blew layer per layer. But still, I'm not satisfied with the outcome. He didn't understand my requirement. I really miss Jaqlyn. Miss her very much...

Our Wish

This morning I was a bit emotional when I was on my way to work. Suddenly I was thinking of my lost baby. I dropped my tears and the intention of wanting to adopt a baby girl is now back in my mind. This is not the first time I have the idea. I brought up this topic to my dear after 2 years marriage when I still failed to conceive. However, I dropped the idea when I found out I was pregnant last year. Coz, it proves that my husband and I are fertile to have our own child.

I discussed this subject with my dear again after we lost our baby. Basically he keeps an open mind on this. Both of us are still young and we should keep ourselves working hard to "manufacture" our own child instead of rushing to get an adopted baby. Well, for me, I think it's no harm to start trying getting more information on adoption. At the same time, I'm getting help to hunt for leads on adoption as well, since adoption process is pretty complicated and it normally takes years for a sussessful adoption.

Well, wish me luck to get pregnant soon, or to successfully adopt a baby in the near future. Hubby and I will keep these two options open. We pray to God to bless us with children...

N-gage Reloaded

The latest N-gage goes live again after a long long time...till I've completely forgotten about it. Originally schedule to launch last December, Nokia delayed the launch indefinitely, promising users that it will soon be available. So loyal Nokia users like us wait, ah wait, wait until we forgot that our handsets do indeed have N-gage installed. Anyway, Nokia now officially launched N-gage mobile games service, starting with 6 games available for download. Among them Creatures of the Deep, FIFA 08, Asphalt 3, Brain Challenge, World Series Poker, and System Rush: Evolution. You can down free trials from the website http://www.n-gage.com/ngi/ngage/web/g0/en/showroom.html

I've tried Creatures of the Deep on my N82 and I think it is an entertaining game to try out when you have nothing better to do, and WiFi is out of reach. It is nothing compared to PSP, and will only serve some light entertainment for Nokia owners.

Back To Work

I'm back to work today. Hurrah! I really like this kind of feeling. Feeling like the first day reporting to a new job. I realised how much I missed my working life when I stepped into the factory. I missed my colleagues, my job, the office, and everything...I know my colleagues are missing me too...hehe :P "Welcome back!" was the greetings I got from them.

Anyway, my desk was a bit dusty. I cleaned it up and rearranged my things. I got more than one thousand emails to catch up. Wow! Must be a lot of things that I need to follow up. I guess I will be as busy as a bee soon.

I got a present from my lady boss. Oh, so sweet. She made me feel how important I am to the organization. One of my junior will be leaving this coming Friday. My boss wants me to pick up her job and take up part of her responsibilities while she is looking for the replacement. Ok, I shouldn't have much problem. It's good for me to treat it as challenges.

I think I have to speed up momentum after 2 months laziness. I believe I can!

Work From Home

Although I'm on 2 months medical leave, I'm still working. I work from home. I communicate with my boss through phone and email. I'm still helping her on some stuffs like data analysing and report compiling.

I communicate with some colleagues through MSN messanger in order to get latest updates on the company status. There will be some new projects transfering to our plant for this one whole year. Good news!

But, I'm sad to hear that quite a number of friends are leaving the organization. Engineers, Managers, and even a Director. Maybe this is the turning point for the company. It needs to take in new bloods to lead the new projects to success.

April Fool's Day

Yay, yay, today is April Fool's Day! I won't go out today. Not going to meet up my friends, my relatives, my colleagues, my enemy,... No one, except my dear. Coz I know my dear won't try to fool me. :P

I know it'll be fun if I'm in the office. Sure there will be lots of fools' errands. It will be fun if I go to my mum's place, coz my little nephew sure will play with me with lots of traps. Definitely he will make up a lots of nonsense stories to cheat me in order to yell "April Fool" to me. He's cute!

Anyway, no fun this year. I just want to be alone. I don't want to be fooling around...

Grandma Talk

Grandma in law (MIL's mother) come and stay with us while MIL is still admitted in the hospital. Grandma is 87 years old and she have a conscious mind. She is still able to take care for herself. She can bath herself and she can cook. She knows how to operate Astro channel controller, hand phone and washing machine. She is even able to knit. She knitted a fridge cover and a washing machine cover for me. The most amazing thing about her is she has a super good memory. She used to remember all our house phones and mobile phones. She is our telephone directory. ;P

Grandma told me about her life. A long long story indeed. I have to cut it short. Her father was from China. He was a contractor cum architect. He got a lot of contracts from government that time. He owned a village in Alor Setar, Kedah with more that 10 houses, and rented it to the villagers, and kept one big house for his own family. He had 2 sons and 3 daughters. There was a maid (ah sam) in charged to cook for the family. Besides, there were also another 3 maids (cha bo kan) hired to take care of his 3 daughters. Wow! I don't even know grandma is so "ho mia" (having a good life). Her mother fight for the daughters for education. The elders daughter managed to finished her secondary school and became a teacher. However, the 2nd (grandma) and the youngest daughter were only able to complete their primary school due to the war. The place was occupied and became a Japanese territory.

The village was forced to sold off during the war period. Each of the son get half of the land. The eldest son took care of his younger sisters. He married a nurse who is very generous. Now, one of their son is a millionaire, the director for a car manufacturer. Maybe this is called karma. He treated people well, and his family earn a good living.

Now among all the siblings, left only my grandma and our grandaunt (三姨婆). Grandma married a F&N distributor and got the only one daughter which is my MIL. MIL is now a retired teacher. Grandpa passed away when MIL still very small. For grandaunt, she married a rich husband, who owned a bus company, and a radio shop. They have 9 children, who are lawyer, doctor, nurse, teacher,... That's amazing!

According to grandma, Dr Mahathir was a famous doctor in Alor Setar. He opened a clinic, and grandma was his patient before. :)
